MUSIC BACKER NANCY COPLIN’S BIG SIX-O PARTY

NETS $35,000 FOR HAAM

Live & Silent Auction Items Strike a Chord with Well-Wishers

Austin, TX—The BIG SIX-O Birthday Party of longtime Austin music supporter Nancy Coplin, which featured a musical lineup that included Delbert McClinton and the Marcia Ball Band and silent and live auctions of such items as autographed music, sports, literary and TV star memorabilia, netted $35,000 for Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).

Coplin, music booker and programmer at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and first chairman of the Austin Music Commission, was delighted by the $25,000 from ticket sales and auction proceeds from the celebration March 30 at Antone’s.

Bids for a Les Paul guitar signed by psychedelic rock pioneer Roky Erickson, a stay in an 1839 Creole townhouse in the French Quarter with admission to the House of Blues’ Foundation Room, box seats at the University of Texas-Texas A&M Thanksgiving Day football match-up, and a Tuesday Cocktail Hour for 100 at Antone’s with a performance by Derek and The Blue Tuesday Band were most appealing to party-goers.

A surprise gift of $10,000 from the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association in Coplin’s honor was made by “Godfather of Austin blues” W.C. Clark.

Coplin says she considers HAAM and its mission to provide the city’s hard-working professional musicians with access to primary medical, dental and mental healthcare “the best thing done for Austin musicians …”
